A number of years ago, our leaders stated that First Nations people should take the responsibility for our own children. In 1994 Nicola Valley First Nations (Scw’exmx) entered into a Transfer of Authority Agreement with the Province of BC Ministry of Social Services, now known as the Ministry of Children & Family Development. |

Scw’exmx Child & Family Services is now a fully delegated Child Protection agency mandated to provide child protection services on behalf of the Province of British Columbia to the Scw’exmx membership residing on reserve (Coldwater, Lower Nicola, Nooaitch, Shackan, Upper Nicola). In December
