keeping children in the community

community caregivers

If parents or caregivers need a break to focus on their own healing, our Community Caregivers Team can help.

Caregivers provide a young person with a home until the families can come back together.

Shifting away from the 'foster system' model, our approach focuses on supporting extended family and community members in caring for young people – ensuring family, community and cultural connections remain intact.

child wellness

by community, for community

providing stabilization, maintenance, and sustainability to reunify

In very rare instances, a child protection call will result in the removal of the child from their immediate family. In this case, we provide a hardworking, dedicated Child Wellness Team that strives to empower parents and reunify families.

The team consists of a Delegated Advisor, Reunification Coordinators, Youth Reunification Coordinators, and Family Service Workers.

Together, we all work to keep kids in community and connected with their families.

community relations

prevention, protection & reunification

Once a child protection inquiry is made, Community Navigators are the first point of contact. Our Navigators can:

  • help connect families with our preventative supports
  • provide short-term assistance
  • send referrals to our service partners for additional support
  • connect you with Family Circles Coordinators to bring the family together for decision-making purposes

workshops

gatherings & teachings

Past events have included:

  • and more!

commitment to community

our complaint resolution process

As part of Scwexmx Child and Family Services Society's commitment to children, young people, families, and community, we have implemented a complaint resolution process to resolve issues in a fair, honest, and open manner.

We are here to ensure that your concerns are addressed, and we encourage you to reach out if you need further assistance.

If your complaint concerns a child who may be in need of protection, please call the Helpline for Children toll-free at 310-1234. The helpline is available 24/7, and no area code is required.
